Mathias De Backer

Mathias advises national start-ups, SMEs, and international clients on intellectual property (IP), information and communication technologies (ICT), and privacy law. He supports companies in drafting commercial agreements such as licenses, assignments, and collaboration contracts, as well as handling the legal aspects of M&A transactions and restructurings. He gained extensive experience in a specialized IP/ICT law firm and in a law firm affiliated with an international consultancy, practicing at the Brussels and Antwerp Bar. Mathias regularly delivers seminars and publishes on topics in IP/ICT and privacy law. He holds a master’s degree in law (University of Antwerp, 2013), a post-master in IP & ICT Law (KU Leuven, 2014), and a postgraduate qualification in Company Law (2023). Mathias combines deep legal expertise with a pragmatic approach to tackle complex challenges effectively.
